Depression Does Not Define Me
Let's Talk About the dangers of ECT
(shock therapy)
My Name Is Lisa Conway
I am a former social worker. I have worked in hospitals, nursing homes and outpatient Treatment Centers. I have experience with Domestic Violence Intervention, Crisis Hotlines and am unfortunately disabled due to my own history of Mental Illness. I suffer from Bipolar Depression, I have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Anxiety Disorder, a history of Anorexia and have suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury as a result of having over 100 Shock (ECT) treatments. My short- and long-term memory are very bad. I have problems processing what others say, I have a service dog, Teddy, who acts as a guide dog for when I get disoriented and lost. I am also an avid runner and believe that physical activity does have a positive effect on Depression. I am writing a book called The Shocking Reality and I hope my own story will help others with their own struggles with Mental Illness.
